Vanessa studied fine art at Chelsea College of Art, Central St Martin's and the Slade School of Art in London before embarking upon a career in journalism that took her from northern Iraq to Turkey, around the world, and finally to Mexico. Former editor-in-chief of Time Out Istanbul, Vanessa switched to the fly-by-night lifestyle of a freelancer upon moving to Mexico City where she currently contributes images and text to Esquire and National Geographic Traveler magazines. Other work has appeared in The Guardian and Observer papers in the UK, City magazine in the US, Life & Style and The News in Mexico, as well as in Time Out travel guides to Istanbul and Mexico City. Her first authored guide book, produced for Insight Guides' Step By Step series, has been published in 2009. Exhibitions of Vanessa's artwork have taken place in London, Paris, Cardiff, Belgrade and Pittsburgh. In 2004, she was presented with the prestigious Becks Student Film and Video Award at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London.
